Our Spiritual Resurrection

Paul writes to the church, “Christ’s resurrection is your resurrection, too.” (Colossians 3:1TPT) He is describing the new person, we become as we allow Christ to cover us in forgiveness and hope. Thinking about this should cause our heart to skip with joy. Jesus empowers us to reject temptation and embrace God’s perfect will for us.

We hear preachers tell us that God has a plan and purpose for us. They tell us that we should follow God’s will for our life. What does that really mean? How do we find God’s will for us? Do you ever want to shout out, how will I know? I asked my dad about this, one day. Of course, I asked once I felt that I could articulate the answer. It seems like we have a lot of pastors, who can tell us that we need to find God’s will for our life but they don’t give a very detailed instruction plan for finding it. They might say, “Well, pray about it. Ask God.” Somehow this advice just misses the mark. How exactly is God going to answer? How will I know it is God and not some vain imagination? Can I impact or change God’s plan for me? Is it like fate or destiny that God has decided and how I feel does not matter?

You are not alone in these kinds of questions. The answers may seem elusive but they are all found in obedience. My experience is this. It is in the act of living obediently that the answers are revealed. It is that simple and that difficult.

The details of instruction to finding God’s will for your life might read like this:

  1. Believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who came to take punishment for your sin, rose from the dead that you could have life. Nothing you can do could ever repay this debt, nor do you want to. This is a gift from God. 1 Corinthians 4:15, Titus 3:5-6
  2. Invite Jesus to take your life and talents, make you fit for a relationship with God and teach you to live obediently for His glory. Titus 2:11-15
  3. Each day, take time to talk to God through Jesus, read the Scriptures because this is how you get to know God, what He likes, what He hates and as He reveals Himself to you, pay attention. Be willing to let go of habits, add new things to your life and change your style. Have an open mind about what and how God wants for you, a good life. 1 Timothy 4:5-6,1 Corinthians 13:
  4. Be obedient to the simple stuff, like the Ten Commandments but do it because you truly love God and are thankful for His gift of forgiveness and love through Jesus, not to be saved. As you read and learn, adjust your life choices, repent when you realize sin, to align with what God likes. This is how we discover God’s will for our lives. Romans 5:3-11
  5. Do not live in sin, excusing yourself. You will have problems experiencing the good plan, if you continue in the path of abomination. Sin is captivating. Our personal weaknesses are exploited by Satan. We must ask Jesus for the power to be victorious in breaking away from those things we know and learn God hates. Romans 3:25-27

This is not an exhaustive list but it is the basics and all the other stuff you will figure out as you dig in God’s Holy Word.

This is our resurrection into a new life relationship with God. It is a change of attitude toward doing that which pleases God through Jesus from trying to do righteously of our own power.

Love God with all your heart, soul and might. Seek and ye shall find. Jesus is our resurrection.
